Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal Khan Appointed as Treasurer of Barisal University

Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal Khan has been appointed as the Treasurer of Barisal University, assuming the position on November 26, 2024.

Born on November 7, 1959, in Pakmuril, Tangail, and raised in Azimpur, Dhaka, Kamal completed his higher secondary education at Notre Dame College before joining the Bangladesh Army.

 

During his military career, he served in key positions, including Commanding Officer of the 1st Bengal Regiment, General Staff Officer at the 9th Infantry Division in Savar, and Commandant of the then-BDR (now BGB) in Sylhet Division. He also completed PSC and AFWC courses.

 

Kamal contributed to United Nations peacekeeping missions in Mozambique and Ivory Coast and traveled extensively to countries such as South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Turkey, Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, the UK, France, and Italy. He served in the Bangladesh Army from 1980 to 2006, retiring as a Colonel.

 

After retirement, he pursued an MBA at Royal Roads University, Canada, and a master’s degree in Governance Studies from Northern University Bangladesh. From 2012 to 2014, he worked as an adjunct faculty member at Northern University.

 

Kamal held administrative roles, including Registrar of the Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST) in Comilla (2015–2018) and Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (2019–2022).

 

His leadership extended beyond academics, notably during the 2019 anti-discrimination student movement at Begum Rokeya University, where he played a significant role. In July 2024, Kamal and his wife, Dr. Farzana Islam Rupa, actively supported the student-led protests, earning widespread recognition.

 

Barisal University welcomes his extensive experience and dedication as he begins his tenure as Treasurer.
