The dignitaries visit the permanent campus of the Royal University

Staff Reporter: Professor Dr. M Abul Kashem Mozumder, Vice-Chancellor of the Royal University of Dhaka and former member of the Public Service Commission, remarked that the late writer Shawkat Osman eloquently expressed truth and beauty. His contemporary and realistic writings shed light on the plight of the neglected and downtrodden. This sentiment was shared during a meeting held in honor of the distinguished film director Prof. Ja-Nesar Osman, the youngest son of the renowned Bengali writer Shawkat Osman, and industrialist Dr. AKM Sahid, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Feni University.

During the visit to the newly constructed building at Tejgaon of the Royal University of Dhaka, Prof. Ja-Nesar Osman and Dr. AKM Shahid were warmly welcomed by Dr. Jamil Ahmed, Registrar of the Royal University. The guests explored the central library and various classrooms with Dr. Jamil Ahmed and Dr. Dipu Siddiqui, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, exchanging greetings with faculty and staff. The guests expressed satisfaction with the university’s learning environment and admired its central location in Dhaka.

 

Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M Abul Kashem Mazumdar presented aspects of the planned 30-storey building of Royal University, envisioning it as a structure modeled after Harvard University. The attendees, including faculty, staff, and parents, expressed excitement and hope for the university to attain international standards. They lauded the visionary Dr. HBM Iqbal, the driving force behind the university’s progress.

 

A brief meeting followed the visit, where Dr. Jamil Ahmed delivered a welcome speech. Sir Osman Ja-Nesar and Dr. KM Shahid were honored by the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar, respectively. Ja-Nesar Osman praised the development work of the Royal University and commended Dr. HBM Iqbal’s initiatives. Dr. KM Shahid paid tribute to freedom fighter Dr. HBM Iqbal, highlighting his efforts for education and economic emancipation.

Dr. Jamil Ahmed emphasized the need for practical knowledge to face upcoming challenges and expressed the desire to expose students to experienced personalities like Ja-Nesar Osman and Dr. KM Shahid. Dr. Dipu Siddiqui spoke of the importance of sharing knowledge while still alive, echoing sentiments from Jahrat Ara, Dr. Malay Sarkar, Sahidur Rahman Khan, and Malbika Majumder.

 

The meeting, moderated by Prof. Dr. Dipu Siddiqui, featured speeches from various faculty members. The festive atmosphere created by the guests resonated with everyone present, and the exchange of ideas left a lasting impression. The attendees were moved by the guests’ sincerity and encouraging speeches, inviting them to visit the university again.
