Int’l Seminar on Women Empowerment will be held tomorrow

Presswatch Report:An international seminar on “Women’s Empowerment in Bangladesh” will be held on March 23, 2023, at the conference hall of the National Press Club.

The seminar is a joint initiative of the United Nations and the Bangabandhu Commission. The chairman of the Bangabandhu Commission, executive member of the Democratic National Committee USA, vice president of Michigan Democratic Party, and the president of the United States Bangabandhu Parishad will be present as chief guest. Internationally renowned academics and political figures will join the seminar on Zoom webinar. In addition, UN Women representatives will participate in the discussion by connecting to the Zoom Webinar during the seminar. Members of the United States Congress, including Congresswomen Haley Stevens, Rashida Talib, and Elisa Slotkins, and Senior Senator Debbie Stebnow, will also join the discussion on women’s empowerment in Bangladesh on March 22, 2023, at 10:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time). Honorable Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Prafulla Chandra Sarkar from Sheikh Hasina University of Science and Technology, Prof. Dr. Arun Kumar Goswami, former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and former Chairman of the Department of Political Science, Jagannath University, Dhaka, and Prof. Dr. Moniruzzaman Kazal, Chairman of the Bengali Department of Comilla University from Bangladesh, will also be present at the seminar. Honorable Member of Parliament Rabeya Alim, International Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dr. Shammi Ahmed, Health and Population Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League Dr. Rokeya Sultana, NI Khan, Curator of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum and Former Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University Prof. Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah and Dr. Sheikh Abdullah Al Mamun, Joint General Secretary of Bangabandhu Parishad and Deputy Registrar of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University will also attend the seminar as guests of honor.

The seminar will be inaugurated by former Member of Parliament and Agriculture and Cooperative Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, Faridun Nahar Laili.

The event will be conducted by Zoom Webinar from the United Nations (SGDs) and Bangabandhu Special Commissioner for Gender Equality. Dr.Remi Alapo and the Chairman of the Education department of the Royal University of Dhaka directly from Bangladesh and the Country of the Bangabandhu Commission and MTV USA, Dr.Md.Abu Bakar Siddique (Dipu Siddiqui), and Bangladesh Commissioner Md Al Masum Khan. Also, Bangabandhu Commission’s Bangladesh Ambassador Md Shibaji Fakir and Commission’s Middle East Ambassador Awlad Hossain will participate in the discussion.

 

The seminar is a celebration of women’s empowerment in Bangladesh and the official hosting and partnership with and feature of this year’s United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSE 67) on Best Practices and Implementation.

 

The seminar will be presided over by MD Rizvi Alam, International Affairs Secretary of the Bangabandhu Commission and General Secretary of Spain Awami League. The seminar will discuss the steps taken by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government for the development of women.
