RUD Pays Tribute to Founder Chairperson Dr. Momtaz Begum on Her 4th Death Anniversary

Shadab Hasin’s report DHAKA:The Royal University of Dhaka (RUD) today observed the fourth death anniversary of its founder Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, prominent female entrepreneur, and philanthropist Dr. Momtaz Begum with profound respect and solemnity.

Dr. Momtaz Begum, wife of valiant Freedom Fighter Dr. H. B. M. Iqbal (ex member of parliament), passed away on June 28, 2022, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Singapore. Since then, her legacy has been commemorated annually on this day.

To mark the occasion, the university organized a memorial discussion and a special doa mahfil (prayer session) at its campus, attended by faculty members, students, officials, and staff members.

In a message issued on her fourth death anniversary, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Royal University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, paid glowing tribute to her memory.

“The late Dr. Momtaz Begum was an extraordinarily compassionate and benevolent soul,” Professor Islam said. “Her colorful life as a successful entrepreneur and her contributions to expanding education—particularly women’s education and holistic social development—remain an exemplary model for us all.”

He further emphasized that her lifelong dedication and ideals will continue to inspire the new generation to work toward building an equitable society.
