Dr Dipu Siddiqui,Dhaka, 28 June 2025 : Royal University of Dhaka solemnly commemorated the third death anniversary of its Founder Chairperson, Dr. Momtaz Begum, with a heartfelt memorial session and Doa Mahfil held at the university premises.
The event was presided over by Professor Dr. ANM Meshquat Uddin, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Royal University of Dhaka. In his address, he paid deep tribute to the life and contributions of Dr. Momtaz Begum, calling her “a visionary, a healer of the poor, and a true pioneer of inclusive education in Bangladesh.”
Dr. Momtaz Begum, a renowned physician and philanthropist, was known for her unwavering dedication to social service. She devoted her life to the upliftment of the underprivileged—particularly marginalized women and students deprived of opportunities. In 2003, driven by her lifelong dream to democratize access to higher education, she founded Royal University of Dhaka.
Described by many as deeply religious, humble, and kind-hearted, Dr. Momtaz Begum’s legacy continues to inspire students and educators alike.
The memorial session concluded with a Milad and Doa Mehfil, where prayers were offered for the eternal peace of her soul.
“She opened the door to higher education for many who were under privileged. Her dream lives on through the university she founded,” remarked Brigadier general(retd.) ASM mushfiqur Rahman during his speech.
