Press watch report:World Teachers’ Day was celebrated at Royal University of Dhaka, centered around the theme “The Teachers’ Voice: New Social Commitment in Education.”
In honor of the occasion, a seminar was held on Monday morning at the university’s seminar hall. The discussion was presided over by the university’s Registrar, retired Brigadier General ASM Mushfiqur Rahman. Distinguished speakers included Professor Dr. Muzakkeerul Huda, Dean of the Faculty of Business, Professor Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Science, Associate Professor Murad Hasan, Chairperson of the Business Department, Associate Professor Malay Kumar Sarker, Chairperson of the Hotel and Tourism Department, and Associate Professor Johorat Ara, Chairperson of the English Department.
The speakers called on the government to take necessary measures to enhance the quality of life and social standing of teachers. They emphasized that the purpose of observing Teachers’ Day is to acknowledge the value, dignity, and contributions of educators. The speakers noted UNESCO’s recommendations on the recruitment, salaries, and working conditions of teachers, regretting that in Bangladesh, teachers continue to face various forms of deprivation. While many countries provide special compensation packages for educators, this is not the case in Bangladesh. The speakers urged the government to gradually ensure better facilities and benefits for teachers in all educational institutions.
They highlighted that teachers play a crucial role in shaping students into patriotic and responsible citizens, contributing significantly to the country’s development. The speakers also emphasized the need for teachers to be more responsible in fulfilling this role.

In his speech, Brigadier General ASM Mushfiqur Rahman stressed the importance of giving teachers the highest social respect and ensuring their rightful entitlements, calling it a moral obligation.

At the beginning of the event, the university registrar greeted all the faculty members with flowers.The seminar was moderated by the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences Dr. Md. Abu Bakar Siddique (Dipu Siddiqui).
