Dr Dipu Siddiqui, Special Correspondent:The Bangabandhu Parishad has announced a human chain program on May 23 to demand exemplary punishment for threats and collaborators. In a joint statement on Monday, May 22, the President (Acting) of the Parishad, Professor Dr. A A M S Arefin Siddique, and General Secretary Professor ABM Farooq expressed their concerns.
They condemned the recent public meeting held by BNP leaders in Rajshahi, where they threatened the life of Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the fourth Prime Minister of Bangladesh, a celebrated statesman both at home and abroad, and a leader of the people. The BNP-Jamaat gangs, with their anti-independence agenda, have attempted to assassinate her 19 times in the past, but she miraculously survived each time by the grace of Almighty Allah.
The brutal grenade attack in 2004, when Sheikh Hasina was the leader of the opposition in the National Parliament, still haunts the people of Bangladesh. The BNP-Jamaat gang was responsible for that heinous incident. Now, they have once again revealed their ugly and hateful politics.
The protest is not only against the death threats to the Prime Minister but also against any attempt or threat to kill any citizen in Bangladesh, as it is a punishable offense under the laws of the country. We stand here in the name of democratic politics, calling for an end to hateful politics. Kulangar and his supporters pose an immediate threat, and we urge the government to bring them to justice and impose the maximum exemplary punishment.
In protest of this abominable incident, the Bangabandhu Parishad has organized a human chain in front of the Dhaka National Press Club on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at five o’clock in the afternoon
