Introduction and Institutional Legacy of the Department of education Royal University of Dhaka – Dr Dipu Siddiqui

The Department of Education at the Royal University of Dhaka (RUD) represents a strong commitment to academic quality, research excellence, and educational innovation. Established in 2006, the department achieved a historic milestone in 2007 with official approval from the Ministry of Education and UGC under Government of Bangladesh—marking the culmination of nearly two decades of dedicated academic pursuit.

The department’s guiding philosophy is to promote a joyful, scientific, and research-oriented learning culture that nurtures reflective educators and competent researchers.

A Robust Portfolio of Research and Survey Studies

Beyond conventional classroom instruction, the Department of Education places strong emphasis on empirical research and field-based inquiry. Over the years, students of the department have produced hundreds of research papers and survey reports focusing on Bangladesh’s education system.

These studies critically examine teaching-learning practices, institutional challenges, learner needs, and curriculum effectiveness at the secondary and higher secondary levels. Through extensive fieldwork, classroom observation, and data-driven analysis, students bridge the gap between theory and practice. Importantly, these research outputs not only identify systemic gaps but also propose realistic, evidence-based solutions—making them valuable references for policymakers and curriculum developers.

Building a Strong Foundation for Doctoral-Level Research

A defining strength of RUD’s Department of Education lies in its rigorous research training. At both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, students receive advanced instruction in research methodology, data interpretation, and statistical analysis—competencies typically associated with PhD-level studies.

Students actively engage in every stage of the research process, from proposal development to final publication. This comprehensive exposure cultivates analytical depth, academic confidence, and research integrity. As a result, graduates of the department demonstrate exceptional readiness for advanced research and doctoral programs at home and abroad.

Vision for the Future

The Department of Education at RUD aspires to emerge as a national hub for educational research and innovation. By redefining teacher education as a creative, reflective, and transformative discipline, the department remains committed to shaping future educators and researchers capable of leading Bangladesh toward a knowledge-driven society.
